Enough with the second place finishes....let's win a championship. The Gators pulled out an amazing come from behind victory against the Picture Butte Sugar Kings on Saturday night. After cruising through much of the tournament the boys faced a determined PB squad that nearly gave the boys too much to handle. The boys were down 19-10 in set 1 of the final before clawing their way back and narrowly losing 26-24. The story was the same in game 2....falling behind 12-4 and 15-6 before storming their way back and winning set 2 25-21. Momentum carried through into game 3 as the boys jumped out to huge 9-0 and 13-1 leads before settling for a 15-7 win. All of the boys were spectacular, and it was some key blocks in the end that was the difference. In round robin play the boys defeated Vauxhall (25-16, 25-13), Vulcan (25-15, 25-20), Magrath (25-20, 25-21) and Crowsnest (25-15, 25-13) to clinch first in pool A and trip to the semi's. Coach Phillips was a little nervous about the semi-final game as we all knew that a victory here meant a trip to provincials. The boys came out flying and a victory over Immanuel Christian was never really in doubt (25-18 and 25-17). The boys now sport an impressive record of 30-1 (sets) vs. 2A schools this year and 15-0 (matches). Our overall record for the year is 82-32.
We will leave on Wednesday at lunch time to travel to Rocky Mountain House.
